  • Background of the Summit:

Shipping and ship-related pollutions have become the focus of concern among the international society. As indicated by a research report of International Tanker Owner's Association, the shipping industry is responsible for more than 1.2 billion tons of CO2 emission on a yearly basis, with SOX and NOX emissions accounting for 20% and 30% of global emissions, in response to which the leading shipping countries have started to focus on the development of safe, environmentally friendly and energy-saving "green ships" and advocate "green shipping".
With shipping standards continuously lifted by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to facilitate the development towards green shipping technologies, a new "green revolution" is taking place on a global basis. China has formally implemented the new edition of the Law on Prevention and Treatment of Air Pollution in 2016, and Ministry of Transport launched the Implementation Plan of Shipping Emission Control Area in Pearl River Delta, Yangtze River Delta and Bohai Bay Rim Region (Beijing, Tianjin and Hebei). This Plan stipulates to incrementally promote fuel with no more than 0.5% sulfur within ECA during the transition period from Jan. 1 2016 to Jan. 1 2019. Feb. 1, Ministry of Transport announced that since Apr. 1, ECA will be implemented in advance in Yangtze River Delta, i.e., ships must use low-sulfur fuel with no more than 0.5% sulfur from 1 hour after arrival to 1 hour before departure. This symbolizes that China's shipping industry have entered a full-fledged "era of sulfur limitation".
The 4th International Green Marine Summit will shed light on the energy saving and emission policies in conjunction with these great opportunities. Latest progress in various technologies and future development trends that stakeholders are highly concern about will be shared too, based on the actual situation in the Chinese shipping industry; to encourage sharing of various innovation, latest industry practices and experience. The conference provides you a platform to communicate with senior government officials, parts manufacturers, shipbuilders, ship owners, shipping companies, classification societies and other industry leaders and experts on multinational projects.
