China’s medical equipment industry has entered a golden age of development. The scale of domestic medical equipment market will exceed 800 billion RMB in 2020. The huge market has attracted many domestic and foreign enterprises, especially in the market of high-end medical devices. In terms of promoting the fast development of local enterprises, the state has implemented policy reforms constantly. China has established the hierarchical care system, the fast-track approval procedures for innovative medical devices, the Marketing Authorization Holder (MAH) policy, etc. All of these policies and procedures are promoting breakthroughs in new technologies and localization of advanced products and have contributed to many achievements. Currently, China has realized localization in many fields to substitute imports, such as cardiovascular stents, monitors, DR and biochemical diagnosis products. It is expected that China will accomplish substitution of imports in many more segments in the next 5-10 years.
Despite the rise of domestic advanced medical device manufacturers with independent R&D capabilities, it is inevitable that they are still in the stage of purchasing core components abroad and assembling domestically. At the same time, domestic medical device products are facing a serious issue of homogenization. Many high-end medical devices, including color Doppler ultrasound, CT, MRI and endoscope among the large and medium-sized devices, chemiluminescence and molecular diagnosis in IVD field, joints in orthopedic implants, medical robots and so on, are all monopolized by multinational corporates. At the starting point of the “Golden Decade”, well-known domestic enterprises and multi-nation corporate giants are all intensifying their efforts to develop high-end medical devices, hoping to take a share of the market. In this context, the International High-end Medical Device R&D and Manufacturing Summit will be held in Shanghai on June 23-24, 2020. The congress will gather medical device regulatory authorities from China and US, top medical device manufacturers, consulting companies, testing and service companies from home and abroad, and providers of material, design, processing technologies and intelligent manufacturing solutions suppliers. They will probe into many hot issues like policies, designs, R&D and intelligent manufacturing of the latest high-end medical devices.
